Top 3 activities with little kids in Lake Wallenpaupack

Over the years we’ve had to balance an age gap of 6 to 10 years. But the great thing about being in an outdoorsy area is there’s really something for everyone. Here are our favorites:

  1. Claws N Paws Animal Zoo
Only 5 minutes (yes, really) down the road from us is this small but mighty zoo. They have a good range of animals and fun extras like the petting zoo and feeding the birds. Our favorites are the screaming monkeys, although the giraffe is known to reach over and get very close to his smallest fans.

  2. Horseback Riding in Lake Ariel
About 15 minutes from us is a family run farm that offers regular group horseback rides through their amazing property. The owners are super friendly and with it being so close, it doesn’t have to be a full day excursion. Check out Why Not Riding Stables for your next trip.

  3. Fishing in Lake Wallenpaupack
One of our kids is truly an old man when it comes to fishing. He can stay out by the water all day. You can buy live bait (nightcrawlers) right from the community’s little storefront Docks, or at the Shell Gas station only 5 minutes away. We also have a few rods and a tackle box in the shed for your little ones to use since we know it may be a quick endeavor.

Of course, for older kids or more serious fishing, there are more sophisticated bait and tackle shops around the lake. You can take our single fishing kayak out (included), or rent a fishing boat for the day from our friends at Pocono Action Sports.

When all else fails, start up the firepit, make some smores, and let them run around on the acre of land until the sugar wears off.
